The Journey
I began the journey from a more fortunate part of the world, dominated by a privileged people. It’s a rite of passage around here. The beginning, I’m told, is in some ways the easiest part and in other ways the hardest. It’s the easiest because it begins on friendly terrain to which I’ve grown accustomed. It’s the hardest for the same reason; a life of ease is all too distracting and difficult to abandon.
I’m told that the most successful travelers are those who develop trust in their inner Spiritual Guide, the eternal partner who knows not only the way to Paradise but how to meet the many challenges along the way. This journey demands new spiritual muscles to strengthen me in preparation for the attainment of my destiny. And a journey without challenges is too easy; they are life’s very purpose.
I expect to make many new friends the further I travel from comfortable surroundings. I will learn from them, and they from me. I have already encountered some tempting opportunities which my Guide advised me against. On this planet there are many appealing but poisonous fruits which must be avoided. I benefit from his guidance, listen carefully for his voice is still and small.
We are told to carry no dogmas and doctrines on the quest. We must live off the spiritual land as we travel, relying on our Guide. This requires a solid store of experiences upon which to draw; the more experiences and decisions we’ve make here, the better.
There is no single path best for all. We each have a different set of challenges. Mine has been my focus on self (I have seen the enemy, and it is me). My skills as a traveler have grown as I put God’s will above my own. My path is not easy, but my Guide is true.
I’m told the discoveries I will make during this journey will assist me on my subsequent travels ever deeper into a vast unknown universe. Each new leg of that voyage will reveal unique destinations as I meet ever more diverse fellow travelers and teachers. I expect to be called upon to share each new skill I’m taught with the pilgrims just behind me, just as I have benefitted from those ahead of me.
I eagerly anticipate what’s to come. I’m eager to discover new horizons. I’ve committed myself to going forward, totally entrusting my destiny into the loving hands of my eternal partner.
The journey continues, one step at a time.
