Supportive and Spirit-affirming discussions
Untitled-1.jpg

Format

The UUI Cafe is moderated by members of the UUI faculty. The UUI Cafe is intended to be a place where members of the Urantia community can get together in supportive and Spirit-affirming discussions based on the clear light and spiritual truths of The Urantia Book.  Each Cafe provides time for listening, studying, sharing, prayer, meditation, and worship.

There are no assignments for these discussions, but the participants are encouraged to share passages from the UB and other resources that have given them insight and guidance in difficult circumstances. Some questions that inspire conversation include:

  • How do we adapt and bring a spiritual context and understanding to the situation? How do we best minister to others in this environment? How can we spread love, not fear?

  • How do we deal with our own fears, doubts and questions?

  • How can we function as the lights in the world that we ought to be and want to be?

  • What kind of opportunities does this give us for spreading the gospel?

  • How might Spirit be using this situation to elevate spiritual awareness?

The only thing you need to join is the Zoom link.

Cafe Etiquette

Mute

Keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking (this prevents background noise).

Chat Board Feature

Mention Zoom's chat board feature, which is accessible by clicking on the Chat icon found on the toolbar at the bottom of your Zoom screen (hover over the Zoom screen to reveal the tool bar). Encourage people to post their reflections or questions in the chat board. Please refrain from using the chat during worship services.

Step Up, Step Back

A helpful adage in promoting wider participation in a group discussion is: "Step up, step back." We encourage those who are used to stepping up and speaking to step back in order

Raise Your Hand

To be recognized by the moderator, raise your hand manually or use the “Raise your hand” feature on the Zoom navigation bar. The person in charge of the queue will add your name to the list in the order received.

Time Limits on Speaking

In order to be fair to everyone, we ask each attendee to limit their speaking time 2-3 minutes. If there is time, people will be given a second chance to share after everyone has had a chance to speak.

Phone Attendance

If you're attending the Cafe by telephone and wish to speak, please wait for a suitable moment and ask for permission to speak. Your name will be placed in the queue.

Respect for others: Practice respectful listening and speaking in the meeting. We do not interrupt or talk over others who have been recognized to speak.

Disable Video

You can enable or disable your video by clicking the icon on the lower left of your control panel. Please turn off your video if you are moving around as it can be distracting to others.

Hand Signal to End Personal Sharing

The moderator will hold their hands together in the form of a 'T' to signal that it's time to quickly wrap up your remarks.

Participation

Everyone will have a chance to speak: We want to give every person a chance to speak to the topic before someone takes a second turn at speaking on a particular topic.
