A landmark synoptic harmony of the four canonical Gospels and the Urantia Papers is now available through Urantia University Press.
Designed to serve both general readers and scholars, the Harmony of the Gospels and the Urantia Papers is a rigorous new scholarly resource for anyone interested in the intersection of Christianity and the Urantia revelation. The Harmony presents, for the first time in a single volume, the complete text of Part IV of the Urantia Book with corresponding passages of the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John arranged in parallel columns; with exhaustive cross-referenced citations throughout.
From the Harmony’s Introduction:
Part IV of the Urantia Book, The Life and Teachings of Jesus, is intimately related to the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Not only does the Urantia Book include the episodes recounted in the Gospels, as well as much that they do not report, but where the narratives retell the same episode there are often striking similarities between the language of the Urantia Book and the familiar, traditional vocabulary and phraseology of the King James Bible.
This Harmony is designed to make plain the nature and extent of these relationships between the narratives in both form and content, clearly and comprehensively. By presenting these several texts synoptically, the elements they share, their unique contributions, and their interactions, may be more readily perceived, more easily understood, and more effectively utilized by students of Jesus’ life and teachings.
A Harmony of the Gospels and the Urantia Papers is a resource which can not only enhance personal and group study of the Urantia Book but opens new lines of scholarly inquiry across multiple disciplines — from New Testament studies and gospel source criticism to the broader history of Christian origins. It is divided into two parts, each making an essential contribution to the whole:
Part I: The Urantia Papers and the Gospels in Harmony contains the entirety of both The Life and Teachings of Jesus from the Urantia Book (Papers 120-196) and the four New Testament Gospels. It is a true harmony, organized according to the timeline of Jesus’ life as presented in the Urantia Papers, with the Gospels harmonized to its sequence of events and parallel passages inserted into the narrative at the appropriate locations. It is Part I that accomplishes the primary purpose of this book: to show clearly and comprehensively how the texts of the Gospels and the Urantia Papers are related to each other.
Part II: The Four Gospels in Parallel Versions consists of a parallel presentation of the Gospels (with brief excerpts from Acts and I Corinthians) from the American Standard Version of 1901 (ASV) and the Harmonized Standard Version (HSV) created for this Harmony. This version parallel has marginal cross-references, linked back to the Urantia Papers in Part I so that a reader can easily find the location of any Gospel passage there.
Merritt will present his book at the upcoming Urantia Book Fellowship International Conference 2026 on Wednesday, July 15 at the Asilomar Conference Center, near Monterey, California. For more about the conference, follow this link…
